“And the reality of the situation is that non-writers simply do not understand that their thirty-second interruption just cost you thirty minutes, and maybe some vital bits of your story.”

Oh my word. This is like a paraprased version of the conversation I just had as I tried to explain why it’s so important that when I allot time to write that I am left UNDISTURBED! I tried to explain that it’s not like a regular job where interruptions are often welcomed, giving you a break from the montonous grind. But interruptions cost a writer time and often a bit of their sanity. But, she didn’t understand at ALL. I said, Emmie, please try and try to understand. I know you want to play dollies, but we just played dollies for an hour and it’s time for mommy to work now.” Hehe. In all seriousness, I think only a writer will understand this. I think an analogy might be like trying to quit a video game that has no pause or save mode. If you stop, you lose everything and have to start all over. Great post!

Like Carol… I really can identify with “And the reality of the situation is that non-writers simply do not understand that their thirty-second interruption just cost you thirty minutes, and maybe some vital bits of your story.”

Though sometimes, it just can’t be helped… its so annoying when it happens! My zune headphones are nice… the block out the screams… even mine ;)
