Construction Coming Soon to Griffie World

Griffie World, my main website will soon be under construction. I think I’m going to (finally) bite the bullet and upgrade it this weekend. So, if you stop by, please excuse the dust (isn’t there always dust with construction?), and the two by fours laying all over the place. I want to get it torn down and back up as quickly as possible, so hopefully the interruption will be minimal.

Why am I revamping the site? Well, when I had just the one site, management was pretty easy and I was able to utilize existing software and knowledge to create the environment I wanted. But, I have now outgrown that format and want to add a little pizzaz, and I need to integrate my sites to have the same look and feel to them. With Griffie World Happenings (this blog), it will be a little easier and faster because the site is already in the right format for conversion to a new theme. This is the same for Where in the World is Misfit McCabe?, my traveling book site.

So, don’t be surprised when you see the construction sign go up at Griffie World.

Oh, by the way, if you’re wondering if I am avoiding working on Nowhere Feels Like Home, I’m not. It is still in the content/copy editing process by other people, so I don’t want to make too many changes to it. The sequel to Nowhere Feels Like Home? Well, I have been working on chapter 1 (first chapters always go slow for me), but I don’t want to get too far into it, just in case there is a drastic change which needs to be made to Nowhere Feels Like Home.

Titans Best USM Eagles in 3 Games to Zip

Our beloved Titans hit the road this weekend, starting an 11 day trip in Hattiesburg, Mississippi where they took on the University of Southern Mississippi Eagles. The Eagles traveled to Goodwin Field to play the Titans for the first time last year, and we were able to complete a sweep of the Eagles then. While the team is looking stronger, since the opening series against TCU, it is always rougher to play on the road, especially on long road trips such as this. Apparently our boys liked Hattiesburg just fine. We completed the first sweep of the Eagles on their home field since 1996, so quite an accomplishment.

Our somewhat silent bats have finally come alive, and in today’s game the Titans, not known for being a power hitting team, managed to blast 5 home runs during the course of the game. In fact, during the 3-game series, the Titans managed to put the ball over the fence 10 times total, and in the first game 3 homers in one inning. Not bad for a weekend. Nick Ramirez led the pack with one home run in each game, and he has extended his hitting streak to 9 games. Other multi-home run hitters were Jared Clark, and Dustin Garneau with two apiece. The remainder were single home runs hit by Josh Fellhauer, Christian Colon, and Khris Davis. Davis currently leads the home run derby with 5 on the year, closely followed by Nick Ramirez with 4.

Daniel Renken totted up his 2nd win as the Titans breezed past the Eagles 15-2 on Friday night. Kyle Whitten had to leave the game early due to an issue with his hip, but Noe Ramirez took the ball and led the team to the 2nd win 11-6 on Saturday. This also marked Noe’s 2nd win on the season. Tyler Pill garnered his 2nd win in the Sunday game with a final score of 11-3.

The Titans will stop in New Orleans tonight so they can practice Monday at LSU’s new stadium before going on to play Texas A&M on Tuesday night. Let’s hope the streak continues.

WITW is MMC? – Woodinville, WA

I have fond memories of Woodinville. I was actually in Washington on business, I forget exactly what the purpose was, but I was visiting the office that my company had in Bothell before heading up to our Vancouver office. Since there was a weekend in between, I was able to attend the Annual Fool’s Day Parade, also known as the Basset Bash, in Woodinville. It was fantastic to see all of the basset hounds running, well waddling, around and all of their owners dressed up in all sorts of get ups, because after all it was the Fool’s Day parade.

Every sort of craft imaginable was on display and being sold. I am a sucker for wooden items, and when I saw a wooden ferry boat, I knew I had to get it for my aunt and uncle who live on Whidbey Island. I was actually going to be crossing on the ferry to stop and see them on my way to Vancouver anyway, so it was the perfect time to buy. I also bought a little curio shelf which has some pegs on it, and we currently use that for holding our car keys and the dog leashes.

I should stop reminiscing and tell you why I’m blathering on about Woodinville. Just prior to Christmas, Misfit McCabe made the trip from Snohomish, where it was visiting with my friend Gail (the one who took me to the Basset Bash), to Woodinville. I haven’t heard anything from the book since it left Snohomish, and I’m afraid it may have gotten buried under a snow drift. Just look at this picture from Woodinville after the snow storm they had. I think it qualifies as having a White Christmas.

WITW is MMC? – Durango, CO

Book 1, the Purple line is moving along in Colorado. It started off in Bayfield and has now made the short jaunt through the mountains to Durango to visit in Miss Pam’s class. They are definitely enjoying the book – to check out what they have to say about Misfit McCabe, read the comments on the Book 1 page of Where in the World is Misfit McCabe?

Actually, Book 7, the Pink line, arrived in El Paso quite some time ago, around the same time as the Brown and Teal lines, but I forgot to post its arrival, mainly because it has been so quiet I think it might be doing a little sightseeing before settling down to be read. To give you a visual of something it might see in El Paso, here is the mission of Guadalupe.

WITW is MMC? – Bayfield, CO

Misfit McCabe, Book 1 (the Purple line) arrived in Bayfield, CO just in time for the long weekend. Bayfield is a small town in southwest Colorado of approximately 1,800 residents located not far from the four corners of Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona & Utah. It is in the midst of the Pine River Valley and sits at an elevation of 6,900 feet.

To give a little peek at Bayfield, here is a picture of the Newspaper office.

Forum and Blog resurrected

Working through the weekend, I was able to resurrect this blog and the Griffie World Talk forum. It was not as straightforward as I would have liked, but they are now established, and I can move on to tweaking templates and creating the look that I want. That may take a little time because I’m still in the process of figuring out how php functions and trying to tweak someone else’s code, without completely destroying the functionality of the site in question.

My main concern was with the forum as I could switch the hosting of the blog back to blogger until I had a chance to work with the blog. But the forum had to be completely dismantled before I could begin the upgrade to the hosting site, so I wanted to get that back up and running as quickly as possible.

So far, I like working with WordPress for the blog, but still need to do some quick studying as far as all of the bells and whistles that it has. But, as usual, I won’t be able to leave well enough alone and will have to see what I can do as far as changing the templates to suit my personality. At least I can now relax just a bit and focus on some other things so that I continue to move forward with my goals.

Upgrade to Griffie World

Me and my bright ideas. I keep coming up with ideas that seem to entail a whole lot of work on my part. I am going to have to talk myself into some ideas that require less work on my part one of these days.

Anyway, the latest, greatest idea is requiring a complete upgrade of the Griffie World website, so I am taking things one step at a time. Unfortunately, I had to completely dismantle the Griffie World Talk forum and will rebuild it as soon as possible. The website (other than the forum) will be up and functional throughout the upgrade, so that at least is the positive side of things. If you happen to visit the forum during the down time, I have posted a message explaining that the site is temporarily unavailable.

What is the latest, greatest idea? Well, you’ll just have to wait and see. I am working fast and furiously on getting everything to come together so that the project can be launched. I hope to be able to make the announcement in the near future.

In the meantime, I will be working on the sequel to Misfit McCabe, working on some book reviews, getting Misfit McCabe marketing kits together for distribution, oh, and working a full time and then-some job and in my spare time, actually living my life. It’s a good thing I love what I do.

Forum woes resolved

I was able to figure out the problems with Guest access to the poll and at the same time resolved the issue I had with the first poll going inactive. All in all a good days work, I would say.

So, the polls are now open for everyone. Go to Griffie World and view the book trailers, and then to Griffie World Talk to cast your vote for your favorite book trailer. If you register, then you can comment on the book trailers and offer your opinion as to what works and what doesn’t work. If you post a comment, you will automatically be entered to win an autographed copy of Misfit McCabe.

Finally on track . . .or not

Well, it has been a little bit of a technical curve, but I think we are finally on track. The first poll that I posted unfortunately lost the ability to accept votes. I hate when that happens, so I have reposted the poll and things are working much better now.

Ok – Murphy has been hanging around waaaayy too much today. . .Just when I thought it was safe to go back in the water, another glitch with the polls. If I am not logged in, I get an error displaying the poll information. Guests are supposed to be able to view and vote in this particular poll and it doesn’t help that they can’t even see the entry let alone vote.

If you are registered and logged in there is no problem. Oh well, back to technical support I go. . .
